Today I made my first loaf of bread. Well, my first loaf that looked and tasted like bread. Unfortunately the first time I tried to make bread it came out of the oven with the outside totally burnt and the inside completely uncooked. The second time I attempted to make bread it didn’t rise, like at all. I had an inedible piece of bread that resembled a brick in more than just looks. I guess the third times a charm right? That or it really does help to use a recipe from a respected chef or restaurant. For this loaf I used a recipe from the Josey Baker Bread book. The book starts out with the most basic recipe you could imagine. The recipe uses just four basic ingredients: bread flour, salt, yeast, and water. The book gives you a super detailed walkthrough of the bread making process. It also gives you reasons why the bread didn’t turn out right (if that happens). The gist of the recipe is this : mix the ingredients, let the dough rest, put the dough in the fridge, shape the dough into a loaf, let the loaf rise, and cook it. it takes a while to make, but boy its worth it.
